“Nor’easter” applies broadly to storms that move along the Eastern Seaboard with winds that blow from the northeast. These types of storms typically occur between November and March. A nor’easter in September is relatively early, but not unheard of.

Residents of coastal communities in the Northeast slogged through floodwaters for a second day as a powerful nor’easter pummeled the shoreline Sunday, knocking out power to tens of thousands of homes.

Videos taken by the Nantucket Current show a fragment of a wooden boat on the island’s south shore during a nor’easter. An expert said the remains were most likely from the Warren Sawyer, a ship that had wrecked in 1884.
